JUSTYNA KRZYŻANOWSKA

Justyna Krzyżanowska - harpist and visual artist in Stockholm, Sweden.

MUSIC

Justyna plays the Celtic harp and the classical harp, performing frequently both within the folk music scene as well as with classical orchestras and choirs in Sweden. She already hosts a wide range of experiences playing with the likes of the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Swedish Orchestra, Stockholm Concert Orchestra, Gävle Symfoniorkester and Västerås Sinfonietta, to name a few. She holds a bachelor in Classical Music Performance from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and a master in Scottish traditional folk music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow.

Her innovative style is characterised by grooves and rhythms as a result of her eclectic musical interests, while she enjoys exploring the harp in more experimental ways. She frequently performs with her harp/fiddle duo Woodlands and her quartet Woodlands+Bäckafall. Since releasing Woodlands debut album in 2020, she has toured Sweden with her bands and performed at festivals such as Urkult, Umefolk, Norrköping Folkmusikfestival and Göteborg Folk Festival. In 2020, Woodlands was commissioned to create a children’s show which was showcased in 30 locations around east coast Sweden. In 2022 she released two avantgarde folktronica singles as a singer and harpist in a collaboration with producer Smowkdragon and is currently planning for the release of her second album with Woodlands.

VISUAL ART

Justyna also specialises in a wide range of the visual arts including photography, videography and album cover art. She frequently photographs musicians and enjoys portraying sounds visually in the form of album designs, music videos or posters.

Justyna travelled a lot with her family across Europe throughout her childhood, and it was the urge to document all the beautiful places she visited that really sparked her interest in photography. The vastness of the Polish mountains, the intense blues of the Greek seas and the scents of the Swedish boreal forest, together with an innate sense of adventure have formed her characteristic style, dominated by nature’s textures and colours.
